What you should know
about us.
Fort Wilderness is a not for profit, non-denominational Christian camp. We are located in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin, 15 miles north of Rhinelander. Founded in 1956, “The Fort” exists to present the good news of Jesus Christ to those still seeking and build-up those who have accepted Him through God’s Word and brotherly love. People come to Fort Wilderness to be refreshed as creation offers peace from the everyday stress of life. Our message is the grace of God freely offered to all through Jesus Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross. Our desire is to show Christ’s Light lived out in our lives.
How do I get to the Fort?

From Rhinelander, WI: Drive 10 miles north on Hwy. 47 and watch for McNaughton on the right (at the big curve). If you get to Lake Tomahawk try again.

Turn right onto Bridge Road, drive past the Tavern / Convienent Store and follow road to the right and continue to the next stop (T-intersection).

At the stop (T-intersection), turn left
onto Black Lake Road.

Turn right on the next paved road (Spider Lake Road), and stay on it for approximately 4 miles until you come to Wilderness Trail on your left (really big rock - the size of a car - on the corner).

Turn left onto Wilderness Trail and you will find us less than a mile up this road and just over the hill!

How can you help? If you would like to give toward our Camp Scholarship Fund, please check what size gift you would like to give on the registration form (line above credit card info). Every gift can help one more camper.

Accommodations at
Main Camp

Located between the sparkling waters
of Spider Lake and over 222,000
acres of state forest.

At main camp we host all of our Family Camps and Retreat Weekends throughout the year.

When you arrive at Fort, the first thing you will experience are the people that serve here; our staff. They love people and are so welcoming and calming. Next, you will start to notice the beautiful setting of the camp, the magnificent trees and then the lake - an almost private lake, a real jewel in the north woods. At that point, it’s hard to settle in to your campsite, new cabin, rustic cabin, or Inn room because you have this great need to explore this wonderful place. With all activity areas less than a 5 minute walk away, everything is right there.

What is amazing about the Fort is its ability to consume each member of the family. From the bored teen to the over-worked parents. Even the littlest children find endless delight. The Fort experience is so vast for a family that it takes a few years to experience all that there is to do. Some of the legendary things that campers love are: a place that you can stay all week without getting into your car; activities that the whole family can do together; five different breakfast adventures. All campers rave about the food, honestly. Then the Fort staff put on shows and family games and programs that are remembered for a lifetime.

Fort is a stronghold of Christian adventure. So the spiritual side of life can be safely explored here. You can get answers to your questions about life and God’s plans for you. Or you can sit back and observe in safety. We, the Fort staff of many years, invite you to this magical land of the Fort.

Accommodations at
Adventure Outpost

Fort’s rustic, three-season camp
is located on Blair Lake.

Adventure Outpost (AO), the location of our youth camp programs, is a beautiful and rustic site where campers can experience the wonders of God’s creation up close and personal. Set back in the woods on an area of rolling hills, AO is nestled along the shores of beautiful Blair Lake. Campers can choose from a wide range of activities from canoeing or kayaking; to enjoying a challenge on our low-ropes course; to benefiting from a time of quiet worship around the fire on the ridge as the sun sets.
